250th Commeration of Cook’s Landing in NZ

Next year marks the 250th anniversary of Captain Cook’s landing in Aotearoa and there are a series of events planned around the country to mark this important turning point in our history.

Cook was a Captain in the Royal Navy and is most famous for the three voyages he made throughout the Pacific, surveying and mapping the many islands of the region. He was also the first European to circumnavigate New Zealand.

These were true voyages of discovery and Cook became a hero in Europe, with appreciation societies still celebrating his achievements today.

For travellers seeking something beyond the ordinary, the events being held around NZ will hold much interest.
