In 2002, the Auckland Art Gallery was closed for 9 years to undergo extensive renovations and remodelling.
For art and architecture lovers, it was well worth the long wait for the work to be completed.
Since it was reopened to the public in 2011, the Auckland Art Gallery has received 16 architectural and 4 design related awards.
In late 2013, the design was awarded World Building of the Year at the prestigious World Architecture Festival in Singapore.
This fabulous building gives visitors to Auckland a real insight into one of the special characteristics of New Zealand architecture – the ability to take the old and blend it seamlessly with the new.
